Sunset or sunrise among the dunes of Erg Chebbi
If you have free time in Merzouga, you can enjoy a peaceful camel ride across the impressive dunes of Erg Chebbi. You can choose a sunset departure or an early-morning experience to watch the sunrise.
Sunset option
Departure point – panoramic dune – return
At the agreed time, you will meet the local caravan leader at the departure point in Merzouga. Each participant will usually have one camel, and you will set off on a ride of around 30 minutes across the sand.
On reaching a high dune, you will stop to see how the light changes over Erg Chebbi, enjoy the sunset colours, and take photographs. You will then return by camel for around 30 minutes to the starting point.
Sunrise option
The tranquillity of the Sahara early in the morning
You can also do the same route before sunrise. This option starts early and allows you to enjoy the silence of the desert and the first light of day from a panoramic dune.
The meeting time changes throughout the year depending on sunrise or sunset. We will confirm the exact time before booking.
The programme includes

Duration and important information
The approximate duration is between 1 hour and 1.5 hours, including the stop. The schedule, exact duration and access to the dune may vary depending on the time of year, the weather and sand conditions. Sunset or sunrise cannot be guaranteed when the sky is overcast.
