A private two-day desert journey from Fez to the dunes of Erg Chebbi, travelling through Ifrane, the Middle Atlas and the Ziz Valley.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Fez – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
At the confirmed time, our driver who speaks your language will pick you up at the airport, your hotel or the exact agreed point in Fez. You will travel in a private, comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle adapted to the number of travellers. From that moment, you will have our assistance throughout the excursion.
We will head south and our first important stop will be Ifrane, a mountain town located at more than 1,700 metres above sea level and known for its sloping-roof architecture. We will then continue through the Middle Atlas landscapes and the cedar forest. When conditions allow, we may observe Barbary macaques without feeding or disturbing them.
After crossing the Middle Atlas, we will descend towards the Ziz Valley, surrounded by mountains, viewpoints and large palm groves. The route will continue to Erfoud, known for its fossils and stone workshops. A visit to a workshop will be optional, and lunch will be at your own expense during the journey.
In the afternoon, we will arrive in Merzouga, at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We will leave the vehicle and begin the camel ride, normally one camel per person, to enjoy the sunset and reach the desert camp. Guests who prefer not to ride can request a 4×4 transfer in advance, subject to the confirmed package.
At the camp, you will be welcomed with Berber tea. You will enjoy dinner, traditional music when scheduled, and a night under the Sahara sky. The tent category and the availability of a private bathroom and shower will be clearly indicated before booking. This is a long driving day designed for travellers with limited time.
Day 2
Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Ifrane – Fez
Those who wish may wake up early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Breakfast will then be served and there will be time to freshen up. Shower facilities will be available either at the camp or at an accommodation in Merzouga, depending on the category and package booked.
We will return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4, according to the confirmed service, and rejoin our private vehicle. The return to Fez will follow the same road as the previous day through Erfoud, the Ziz Valley, the Middle Atlas and Ifrane, with fewer stops in order to maintain a comfortable pace. Lunch will be at your own expense during the journey.
Arrival time will depend on traffic, weather conditions and stops. We do not recommend booking a flight on the same day based on an early arrival time without prior confirmation, as this is a long journey. At the end of the route, our driver will drop you off at the airport, your hotel or the exact agreed point in Fez.
This transfer marks the end of the two-day desert excursion.
