A private four-day journey from Fez to the Merzouga Desert, with two nights in Erg Chebbi, a 4×4 excursion, Khamlia and a guided tour of Fez.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Fez – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
At the confirmed time, our driver who speaks your language will pick you up at the airport, hotel or agreed meeting point in Fez. We will travel in a private, comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle towards the Middle Atlas.
We will visit Ifrane and continue through the cedar forest. When conditions allow, we may observe Barbary macaques without feeding or disturbing them. We will then cross the mountains and descend through the Ziz Valley, passing viewpoints and palm groves, until we reach Erfoud. Lunch will be at your own expense and visits to fossil workshops will be optional.
In the afternoon we will arrive in Merzouga. A camel ride, normally one camel per person, will take us across the Erg Chebbi dunes to enjoy the sunset and reach the desert camp. Guests who prefer not to ride can request a 4×4 transfer in advance, subject to the confirmed package.
At the camp you will enjoy Berber tea, dinner, traditional music when scheduled and overnight accommodation. The tent category and availability of a private bathroom and shower will be specified in the quotation. This first stage is long and its duration will depend on the stops and road conditions.
Day 2
Erg Chebbi – Khamlia – Old Mines – Nomad Families – Merzouga
After watching the sunrise and having breakfast at the camp, we will begin a 4×4 excursion around Erg Chebbi. The route will be adapted to the weather, track conditions and the pace of the group.
We will visit Khamlia, a village known for Gnawa music. When a performance is available, we can respectfully discover its rhythms and history. We will continue along old tracks associated with the Paris-Dakar Rally, mining areas and viewpoints offering panoramic views over the dunes.
We will also have a respectful encounter with a nomadic family to learn about their way of life. These visits are never presented as a show and may change depending on the location and availability of the families. Lunch will be at your own expense during the day.
At the end of the day, we will return to the selected camp in Merzouga, where dinner and another night under the Sahara sky are included.
Day 3
Merzouga – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Ifrane – Fez
After breakfast and time to freshen up, we will begin the return journey to Fez. We will follow the route through Erfoud, the Ziz Valley, the Middle Atlas and Ifrane, making fewer stops than on the first day in order to travel at a comfortable pace.
Lunch will be at your own expense during the journey. Arrival time will depend on traffic, weather and stops, so an early arrival should not be promised without prior confirmation.
Upon arrival in Fez, the driver will drop you off at the selected riad in or near the medina. You will have the rest of the day free to rest or take a first walk. Accommodation includes breakfast; dinner will be at your own expense.
Day 4
Fez – Guided City Tour – Airport Transfer
After breakfast, an official local English-speaking guide will accompany you through the medina of Fez. Depending on opening times and the time available, the visit may include Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Fountain, the exterior of Al Quaraouiyine, the tanners’ quarter, the Mellah and the gates of the Royal Palace. Entrance fees are optional and will be paid directly.
The tour will be adapted to your departure time. If your flight is early, the visit may be shortened or may not be possible; the punctual airport transfer will always have priority.
At the agreed time, our driver will pick you up and take you to the airport, train station or confirmed final point in Fez. This is where the four-day tour will end, returning to the same city.
