Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
At the confirmed time, our driver who speaks your language will pick you up at the airport, your accommodation or the exact previously agreed location in Marrakech. The journey will be made in a private, comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle, adapted to the number of travellers. From that moment, you will have the assistance of Viajes Almoravid throughout the route.
We will head south and cross the High Atlas through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, located at more than 2,200 metres above sea level. The road offers magnificent mountain views and passes through small Amazigh villages; we will make stops to rest, admire the scenery and take photographs.
On the other side of the Atlas, we will visit the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified adobe complex declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well known for having been used as a filming location. Entrance fees to paid areas are optional. After lunch at your own expense, we will continue towards Ouarzazate, the Skoura palm grove, the Valley of the Roses and the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs. At the end of the afternoon, we will arrive in the Dades Valley, where dinner will be served and we will spend the night in a selected riad or hotel.
Day 2
Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
After breakfast, we will travel through the landscapes of the Dades Valley and continue to the Todra Gorges. There we will stop to walk between the high rocky walls, which in some places reach approximately 200 metres, and discover this impressive canyon formed by the Todra River.
We will continue along the road through Tinghir, Tinjdad and Touroug, with their villages and palm groves, until we reach Erfoud, a town known for its fossils and stone workshops. Lunch will be at your own expense during the journey.
In the afternoon, we will reach Merzouga, at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We will leave the vehicle and begin the camel ride, normally one camel per person, to watch the sunset and reach the camp. Guests who do not wish to ride a camel may request a 4x4 transfer in advance, subject to the confirmed package.
At the camp, you will enjoy dinner, traditional music when scheduled and a night under the Sahara sky. The category of the tent and the availability of a private bathroom and shower will be clearly specified in the quotation before booking.
Day 3
Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Tazarine – N’Kob – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate
Those who wish may wake up early to watch the sunrise over Erg Chebbi. After breakfast and time to freshen up, we will return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4, depending on the booked service, and continue with our private vehicle.
The route will continue towards Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet. When it coincides with market day and the schedule allows, we may experience the atmosphere of its traditional market. Afterwards, we will travel through Alnif, Tazarine and N’Kob, among desert landscapes, plateaus and southern villages. Lunch will be at your own expense during the journey.
In the afternoon, we will reach Agdz and continue through the Draa Valley, famous for its extensive palm grove, orchards and adobe villages. Finally, we will arrive in Ouarzazate, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a selected riad or hotel. This stage divides the long return journey of the three-day route and allows for a more comfortable pace.
Day 4
Ouarzazate – Kasbah of Taourirt – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast, we will have time for an exterior visit or an optional visit to the Kasbah of Taourirt, one of Ouarzazate’s best-known historical monuments. You will also be able to enjoy the city’s cinematic atmosphere; any entrance fees are optional and will be paid directly.
We will then begin the return journey to Marrakech. We will once again cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka road, making stops at viewpoints and scenic places depending on the available time. Lunch will be at your own expense during the journey.
Arrival in Marrakech is expected in the afternoon. Our driver will drop you off at the airport, your accommodation or the exact agreed location, bringing to an end four days of kasbahs, valleys, gorges and dunes with Viajes Almoravid.
