Route of the Thousand Kasbahs and Desert in 6 Days from Marrakech

Day 1

Arrival in Marrakech – Transfer to the Riad

Regardless of your arrival time, our staff will meet you at the airport, train station, your accommodation or another previously agreed meeting point in Marrakech. The transfer will be made in a private, comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle.

Upon arrival at the selected riad, we will assist you with your luggage and you can check in. The rest of the day will be free to relax or have your first contact with the Medina, depending on the time and your energy.

Dinner will be served at the accommodation and you will spend your first night in Marrakech. From this moment, you will have the assistance of Viajes Almoravid before and throughout the entire tour.

Day 2

Marrakech – Alto Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Valle de las Rosas – Valle del Dades

After breakfast, our driver who speaks your language will pick you up at the riad to begin the route towards the southeast. We will cross the High Atlas through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, located at more than 2,200 metres above sea level, with stops at viewpoints and near Amazigh villages to enjoy the scenery and take photographs.

On the other side of the mountains, we will visit the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a large fortified adobe complex declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and used as a setting for numerous productions. Entrance fees to paid areas are optional.

After a free lunch, we will continue through Ouarzazate, with the possibility of viewing the Kasbah of Taourirt from the outside, and then continue towards the Skoura palm grove. Afterwards, we will travel through the Valley of the Roses and the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley. There we will have dinner and spend the night in a selected riad or hotel.

Day 3

Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Tinjdad – Touroug – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi

After breakfast, we will continue through the landscapes of the Dades Valley towards the Todra Gorges. We will stop to walk between its impressive rocky walls, which reach more than 200 metres at some points, and see this canyon formed by the river up close.

The route will continue through Tinghir and the palm groves of Tinjdad and Touroug, where we will see villages, crops and ways of life of southern Morocco. Later, we will arrive in Erfoud, known for its fossils and stone workshops. Lunch will be at your own expense during the journey.

In the afternoon, we will reach Merzouga, at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We will leave the vehicle and begin the camel ride, normally one camel per person, to enjoy the sunset and reach the camp. Guests who do not wish to ride a camel may request a 4x4 transfer in advance, subject to the confirmed package.

At the camp, you will enjoy dinner, traditional music when scheduled, and a night under the Sahara sky. The category of the tent and the availability of a private bathroom and shower will be clearly indicated in the quotation.

Day 4

Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Tazarine – N’Kob – Draa Valley – Agdz – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Those who wish may wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast and time to freshen up, we will return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4, depending on the service booked, and rejoin our private vehicle.

The route will pass through Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet. When it coincides with market day and the schedule allows, we may experience its traditional atmosphere. We will then continue through Alnif, Tazarine and N’Kob, among desert landscapes, plateaus and adobe villages. Lunch will be at your own expense during the journey.

Further on, we will reach Agdz and travel through the Draa Valley, famous for its vast palm grove, orchards and kasbahs. After passing through Ouarzazate again, we will cross the High Atlas via Tizi n’Tichka.
Arrival in Marrakech will be at the end of the day. This is a long journey and its duration will depend on stops, traffic and weather conditions. Dinner and accommodation will be waiting for you at the riad.

Day 5

Marrakech – free day

After breakfast, you will have the whole day to enjoy Marrakech at your own pace. You can explore Jemaa el-Fna Square, the souks, the surroundings of the Koutoubia and the streets of the Medina, as well as spend time shopping, enjoying local gastronomy or relaxing.

It is also possible to request a visit with an official local Spanish-speaking guide. This service must be booked in advance and is not included in the basic tour package.

At the end of the day, you will return to the same selected riad, where dinner will be served and you will spend the final night of the tour.

Day 6

Marrakech – Airport Transfer

After breakfast, the available time will depend on your departure time. When the schedule allows, you can do some last-minute shopping, take a walk around the city or relax at the accommodation until the agreed time.

Our driver will pick you up with sufficient time to provide the private transfer to Marrakech Airport. If your departure is from the train station or another point in the city, the service will be adapted to the previously confirmed location.

With this final transfer, your six-day journey through Marrakech, the southern kasbahs, the Todra Gorges and the Erg Chebbi dunes will come to an end. The Viajes Almoravid team will say goodbye, wishing you a pleasant journey home and hoping to welcome you again in Morocco.
