4-Day Merzouga Desert Tour from Fez

Day 1

Fez – Ifrane – cedar forest – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi

At the confirmed time, our Spanish-speaking driver collects you from Fez airport, hotel or agreed location. We travel south in a comfortable private air-conditioned vehicle through the Middle Atlas.

We visit Ifrane and continue through the cedar forest. When conditions allow, there may be time to observe Barbary macaques without feeding or disturbing them. We then cross the mountains and descend through Ziz Valley to Erfoud. Lunch is at your own expense and fossil-workshop visits are optional.

In the afternoon we reach Merzouga. A camel ride, normally one camel per traveller, crosses Erg Chebbi for sunset and the journey to camp. A 4x4 transfer may be requested in advance instead, subject to the confirmed package.

Berber tea, dinner, traditional music when scheduled and accommodation are provided at camp. The tent category and availability of a private bathroom and shower will be stated in the quotation. This is a long first stage and timing depends on stops and road conditions.

Day 2

Erg Chebbi – Khamlia – former mines – nomad families – Merzouga

After sunrise and breakfast at camp, we begin a 4x4 circuit around Erg Chebbi. The route is adapted to weather, track conditions and the group’s pace.

We visit Khamlia, known for Gnawa music. When a performance is available, there is an opportunity to learn respectfully about its rhythms and history. The route continues along former Paris-Dakar tracks, past old mining areas and viewpoints over the dunes.

A respectful encounter with a nomad family offers an introduction to local life. These visits are never treated as a spectacle and may change according to the families’ location and availability. Lunch is at your own expense.

At the end of the day we return to the selected Merzouga camp, where dinner and the second Sahara overnight stay are included.

Day 3

Merzouga – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Ifrane – Fez

After breakfast and time to freshen up, we begin the journey back to Fez through Erfoud, Ziz Valley, the Middle Atlas and Ifrane, with fewer stops than on the outward journey.

Lunch is at your own expense. Arrival time depends on traffic, weather and stops, so an early arrival should not be promised without prior confirmation.

In Fez, the driver drops you at the selected riad in or near the medina. The rest of the day is free for rest or a first walk. Breakfast is included; dinner is at your own expense.

Day 4

Fez – guided visit – airport transfer

After breakfast, an official Spanish-speaking local guide leads the Fez medina visit. According to opening times and the available schedule, it may include Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Fountain, the exterior of Al Quaraouiyine, the tanners’ quarter, the Mellah and the Royal Palace gates. Admission fees are optional and paid directly.

The programme is adapted to departure time. When the flight is early, the visit may be shortened or may not be possible; the on-time airport transfer takes priority.

At the agreed time, our driver takes you to Fez airport, station or confirmed final location. This completes the four-day circuit returning to the same city.
