A grand private journey from Tangier to Marrakech through Chefchaouen, Fez, two Merzouga nights, Ouarzazate and Essaouira.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
Tangier – Tetouan – Chefchaouen
Our Spanish-speaking driver welcomes you at Tangier airport or port. When timing allows, there is a free visit of Tetouan’s white medina; after a late arrival this stop may be shortened or omitted. We then continue to Chefchaouen for free time among its blue lanes, kasbah, squares and Rif viewpoints. Overnight in a selected medina riad, with breakfast included and dinner at your own expense.
Day 2
Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fez
After breakfast we travel to Volubilis to explore its Roman ruins, mosaics and Arch of Caracalla. Admission and any specialist guide are not included. We continue to Meknes for landmarks such as Bab Mansour and El Hedim square, according to timing, before reaching Fez. This is the first of two selected riad nights, with breakfast included and dinner at your own expense.
Day 3
Fez – guided city visit
After breakfast, an official Spanish-speaking local guide leads the Fez medina visit. It may include Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Fountain, the exterior of Al Quaraouiyine, souks, tanneries, Mellah and Royal Palace gates. Admission is not included. The afternoon is free, followed by a second night in the same riad.
Day 4
Fez – Ifrane – cedar forest – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
After breakfast we travel south through Ifrane and the cedar forest, observing Barbary macaques without feeding or disturbing them when conditions allow. We cross the Middle Atlas and follow Ziz Valley through Erfoud to Merzouga. Lunch and fossil-workshop visits are not included. A camel ride, normally one per traveller, crosses Erg Chebbi at sunset to camp; a pre-arranged 4x4 alternative is available subject to the package. Berber tea, dinner and accommodation are included, with tent category and private facilities confirmed in the quotation.
Day 5
Erg Chebbi – Khamlia – former mines – nomad families – Merzouga
After sunrise, breakfast and time to freshen up, we begin a weather-dependent 4x4 circuit around Erg Chebbi. It includes Khamlia and Gnawa culture, former tracks and mining areas, dune viewpoints and a respectful encounter with a nomad family when available. Lunch is at your own expense. Dinner, breakfast and the overnight stay are provided at a selected Merzouga hotel.
Day 6
Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate
After breakfast we travel through Rissani, with a market visit when open and timing allows, then continue to Todra Gorge for a walk. Lunch is at your own expense. The route follows Dades Valley, Rose Valley and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to Ouarzazate. Taourirt Kasbah and film-studio interiors are optional. Dinner, breakfast and accommodation are included at a selected Ouarzazate hotel or riad.
Day 7
Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Telouet – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast we visit the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. Paid entrances are not included. We continue via Telouet, whose kasbah interior is optional and subject to road conditions and timing, before crossing the High Atlas through Tizi n’Tichka. In the afternoon we reach Marrakech for the first of two selected riad nights, with breakfast included and dinner at your own expense.
Day 8
Marrakech – guided city visit
After breakfast, an official Spanish-speaking local guide leads the Marrakech visit, which may include the exterior of Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Madrasa, souks and Jemaa el-Fna. Admission is not included. The afternoon is free, followed by a second night in the same riad.
Day 9
Marrakech – Essaouira
After breakfast we travel approximately 190 km to Essaouira, with an optional argan cooperative stop when open. The day is free for the medina, port, walls, beach or local seafood. Camel rides, water sports and other optional activities are not included. Overnight in a selected Essaouira riad, with breakfast included and dinner at your own expense.
Day 10
Essaouira – Marrakech airport
After breakfast, free time depends on the flight schedule. The driver then transfers you directly to Marrakech airport, allowing sufficient time for the road, traffic and departure formalities. The Viajes Almoravid services end at the terminal.
