Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Marrakech – transfer to the riad

On arrival, our Spanish-speaking driver meets you at the airport, your accommodation or the exact agreed Marrakech location. The transfer is provided in a comfortable private air-conditioned vehicle suited to the group size. Viajes Almoravid assistance is available from this moment and throughout the circuit.

At the selected medina riad, there is time for check-in and rest. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy a first introduction to Jemaa el-Fna square, the souks and the city atmosphere.

The first night is in Marrakech with breakfast included. Dinner is at your own expense, allowing you to choose among restaurants in the medina.

Day 2

Marrakech – guided visit and free afternoon

After breakfast, an official Spanish-speaking local guide leads the Marrakech visit. The morning route is adapted to opening times and may include Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, the exterior of Koutoubia Mosque, Ben Youssef Madrasa, the souks and Jemaa el-Fna square.

Monument admission is not included and is paid directly. The guide explains the history, architecture and everyday life of the medina while adapting the visit to your interests.

The afternoon is free for shopping, rest or optional additions such as Majorelle Garden, subject to availability and advance booking. You return to the same riad for the second Marrakech night; dinner is at your own expense.

Day 3

Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, our driver collects you from the riad and the journey heads south. We cross the High Atlas through the Tizi n’Tichka pass at more than 2,200 metres, stopping at viewpoints and near Amazigh villages for scenery and photographs.

Beyond the mountains we visit the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, an impressive fortified adobe settlement. There is time to explore and learn about its history; paid entrances are optional. Lunch is at your own expense.

In the afternoon we continue to Ouarzazate, known as the Gateway to the Desert. According to timing, there may be an interior visit or exterior view of Taourirt Kasbah. Dinner and an overnight stay are provided in a selected Ouarzazate riad or hotel.

Day 4

Ouarzazate – Skoura – Rose Valley – Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi

After breakfast we begin one of the circuit’s fullest stages. The Road of a Thousand Kasbahs takes us through the Skoura palm grove, Rose Valley and Dades Valley, with stops at the most interesting landscapes.

We continue to Todra Gorge, where there is time to walk beneath its high rock walls. The route passes Tinghir, Tinjdad and Touroug with their palm groves before reaching Erfoud, known for fossils and stone workshops. Lunch is at your own expense.

In the afternoon we arrive in Merzouga at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We exchange the vehicle for camels, normally one per traveller, to enjoy sunset and reach camp. Guests who prefer not to ride may request a 4x4 transfer in advance, subject to the confirmed package. Dinner, traditional music when scheduled and a night beneath the Sahara sky complete the day. The tent category and availability of a private bathroom and shower will be clearly stated in the quotation. This is a long travelling day and timing depends on stops and road conditions.

Day 5

Merzouga – Rissani – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – cedar forest – Ifrane – Fez

Guests who wish may rise early to watch sunrise over Erg Chebbi. After breakfast and time to freshen up, we return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4 according to the booked service and rejoin the private vehicle.

The route passes Rissani and follows the Ziz Valley through palm groves, mountains and viewpoints. We then cross the Middle Atlas and cedar-forest landscapes. When conditions allow, there may be time to observe Barbary macaques without feeding or disturbing them. We also stop in Ifrane, known for its mountain architecture.

At the end of the day we arrive in Fez and drop you at the selected riad in or near the medina. This is another long stage and arrival time may vary because of traffic, weather and stops. Breakfast is included; dinner is at your own expense.

Day 6

Fez – guided city visit

After breakfast, an official Spanish-speaking local guide leads the visit of Fez. Much of the day is devoted to the historic medina, monumental gates, artisan quarters, souks and viewpoints, with explanations about one of Morocco’s most important Imperial Cities.

Depending on opening times and the group’s preferences, the route may include Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Fountain, the exterior of Al Quaraouiyine Mosque and University, the Moulay Idriss mausoleum, the tanners’ quarter and the Mellah. There may also be time to see the golden gates of the Royal Palace. Admission fees are optional and paid directly.

Lunch is at your own expense and the guide coordinates the continuation of the visit. At the end of the day you return to the same selected riad for the second Fez night, with breakfast included and dinner at your own expense.

Day 7

Fez – Volubilis – Chefchaouen

After breakfast we leave Fez and travel to Volubilis, one of Morocco’s most important Roman archaeological sites. Admission and a local guide are optional. Guests who enter may see its mosaics, Arch of Caracalla, ancient villas and other remains.

After lunch at your own expense, the journey continues towards the Rif Mountains and Chefchaouen. On arrival, the afternoon is free to explore Uta el-Hammam square, blue lanes, artisan workshops and viewpoints over the mountain setting.

Overnight is in a selected riad in or near the Chefchaouen medina. Breakfast is included; dinner is at your own expense.

Day 8

Chefchaouen – Tangier – airport or port

After breakfast, the schedule is arranged around the Tangier departure time. We begin the private transfer from Chefchaouen to the airport, port, your accommodation or the exact location confirmed in advance.

When flight or ferry time, traffic and the group’s pace allow, free time or a brief panoramic Tangier visit may be arranged. This cannot be guaranteed when it could affect an on-time arrival at the departure point.

The driver drops you with sufficient time for departure. This service completes eight days through Marrakech, the High Atlas, Merzouga desert, Fez, Volubilis, Chefchaouen and Tangier. The Viajes Almoravid team wishes you a pleasant journey home and hopes to welcome you back to Morocco.
