4-Day Merzouga Desert Tour from Marrakech

Day 1

Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

At the confirmed time, our Spanish-speaking driver will collect you from the airport, your accommodation or the exact Marrakech location agreed in advance. Travel is in a comfortable private air-conditioned vehicle suited to the number of guests. From this moment, Viajes Almoravid will assist you throughout the tour.

We drive south across the High Atlas through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, at more than 2,200 metres above sea level. The road offers sweeping mountain views and passes small Amazigh villages, with stops for rest, photographs and time to enjoy the scenery.

Beyond the Atlas we visit the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, an impressive fortified adobe settlement used as a location for many film productions. Paid entrances are optional. After lunch at your own expense, we continue through Ouarzazate, the Skoura palm grove, the Rose Valley and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. In the late afternoon we reach Dades Valley for dinner and an overnight stay in a selected riad or hotel.

Day 2

Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi

After breakfast we travel through Dades Valley and continue to Todra Gorge. There is time to walk beneath its towering rock walls, which reach around 200 metres in places, and experience the remarkable canyon carved by the Todra River.

We return to the road through Tinghir, Tinjdad and Touroug, passing villages and palm groves before reaching Erfoud, known for fossils and stone workshops. Lunch is at your own expense along the way.

In the afternoon we arrive in Merzouga at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We leave the vehicle and begin the camel ride, normally one camel per traveller, timed to enjoy sunset before reaching camp. Guests who prefer not to ride may request a 4x4 transfer in advance, subject to the confirmed package.

Dinner, traditional music when scheduled and a night beneath the Sahara sky complete the day. The tent category and availability of a private bathroom and shower will be clearly stated in the quotation before booking.

Day 3

Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Tazarine – N’Kob – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate

Guests who wish may rise early to watch sunrise over Erg Chebbi. After breakfast and time to freshen up, we return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4 according to the booked service and rejoin the private vehicle.

The route continues to Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet. When the market is open and timing allows, there may be time to experience its traditional atmosphere. We then cross Alnif, Tazarine and N’Kob through desert landscapes, plateaus and southern villages. Lunch is at your own expense.

In the afternoon we reach Agdz and follow the Draa Valley, famous for its vast palm grove, gardens and adobe settlements. We finally arrive in Ouarzazate for dinner and an overnight stay in a selected riad or hotel. This stage divides the long return journey of the three-day tour and creates a more comfortable pace.

Day 4

Ouarzazate – Taourirt Kasbah – High Atlas – Marrakech

After breakfast there is time for an exterior view or optional visit to Taourirt Kasbah, one of Ouarzazate’s best-known historic monuments. You may also experience the city’s film heritage; any entrance fees are optional and paid directly.

We then begin the return journey to Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas once more on the Tizi n’Tichka road. Stops will be made at viewpoints and scenic locations according to the available time. Lunch is at your own expense.

Arrival in Marrakech is expected in the afternoon. Your driver will drop you at the airport, your accommodation or the exact agreed location, completing four days of kasbahs, valleys, gorges and dunes with Viajes Almoravid.
