Sunset or sunrise among the Erg Chebbi dunes
If you have free time in Merzouga, enjoy a peaceful camel ride through the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes. You may choose either the sunset departure or an early-morning experience to watch the sunrise.
Sunset option
Departure point – panoramic dune – return
At the agreed time, you meet the local caravan handler at the departure point in Merzouga. Each participant normally has one camel, and the ride begins with approximately 30 minutes across the sand.
On reaching a high dune, you stop to watch the changing light over Erg Chebbi, enjoy the sunset colours and take photographs. You then ride back by camel for approximately 30 minutes to the starting point.
Sunrise option
The tranquillity of the Sahara at first light
The same route can also be taken before sunrise. This option starts early and offers the chance to enjoy the desert silence and first light of the day from a panoramic dune.
The meeting time changes throughout the year according to sunrise or sunset. The exact schedule will be confirmed before booking.
