Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
Tangier – Tetouan – Chefchaouen
On arrival, our Spanish-speaking driver welcomes you at Tangier airport or port. If you are already in the city, pickup may instead be arranged at your hotel or another exact location. Travel throughout the tour is in a comfortable private air-conditioned vehicle.
When arrival time allows, we stop in Tetouan. There is free time to discover its UNESCO-listed white medina and the Hispano-Moroccan influence preserved from its period as capital of the former Spanish Protectorate. Following a late arrival, this visit may be shortened or omitted to maintain a comfortable pace.
In the afternoon we continue to Chefchaouen, the famous blue city in the Rif Mountains. You may independently explore its lanes, squares, craft shops and panoramic viewpoints. The visit is adapted to the actual arrival time.
You stay in a selected riad in the Chefchaouen medina. The overnight stay and breakfast are included; lunch, dinner and drinks are at your own expense.
Day 2
Chefchaouen – Fez – guided visit
After breakfast we travel through the mountain and forest landscapes of the Rif towards Fez. Arrival time depends on traffic, stops and the time spent in Chefchaouen.
In Fez you meet an official Spanish-speaking local guide to explore its UNESCO-listed historic medina. According to arrival time, opening hours and the group’s pace, the visit may include Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Fountain, the exterior of Al Quaraouiyine, the souks, tanners’ quarter, Mellah and Royal Palace gates.
Admission is not included and is paid directly. If the available schedule does not allow the full route, the guide prioritises the most representative places. There is then free time for a walk or craft shopping.
You spend the night in a selected riad in or near the Fez medina. Breakfast is included; lunch, dinner and drinks are at your own expense.
Day 3
Fez – Ifrane – cedar forest – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
After breakfast we begin a long and varied journey south. The first important stop is Ifrane, a mountain town at more than 1,700 metres known for its sloping roofs and Alpine atmosphere.
We continue through the Middle Atlas cedar forest. When conditions allow, there may be time to observe Barbary macaques in their natural environment without feeding or disturbing them. We then cross the mountains and descend through Ziz Valley past viewpoints, palm groves and increasingly arid scenery.
The route passes Erfoud, known for fossils and stone workshops. Lunch is at your own expense and workshop visits are optional. In the afternoon we reach Merzouga at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes.
A camel ride, normally one camel per traveller, offers sunset views on the way to camp. Guests who prefer not to ride may request a 4x4 transfer in advance, subject to the confirmed package. Berber tea, dinner and a Sahara overnight stay await at camp. The tent category and availability of a private bathroom and shower are specified in the quotation.
Day 4
Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate
Guests who wish may rise early for sunrise over Erg Chebbi. Breakfast is then served, followed by time to freshen up. We return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4 according to the confirmed service and rejoin the private vehicle.
The first stop is Rissani. When the market is open and timing allows, there may be time to experience its traditional atmosphere. We then continue to Todra Gorge for a walk beneath its high rock walls. Lunch is at your own expense.
The route continues through Dades Valley and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs among palm groves, Amazigh villages and adobe fortresses. In Ouarzazate, according to timing and opening hours, there may be an exterior view or optional interior visit of Taourirt Kasbah. Admission is paid directly.
You spend the night in a selected Ouarzazate hotel or riad. Dinner and breakfast are included.
Day 5
Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast we travel to the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, an impressive fortified adobe settlement. There is time to explore its lanes, learn about its architecture and enjoy the panoramic views. Any paid entrances are at your own expense.
We then cross the High Atlas through the Tizi n’Tichka pass at more than 2,200 metres, stopping at viewpoints and near Amazigh villages whenever weather and road conditions allow. Lunch is at your own expense.
In the afternoon we descend towards Marrakech. Arrival time may vary with traffic, weather and the stops made during the day.
The driver drops you at Marrakech airport, your accommodation or the exact agreed location. We do not recommend booking a flight based on an early arrival without prior confirmation. This transfer completes the private five-day journey from Tangier to Marrakech.
