Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech – High Atlas – Draa Valley – Zagora – desert camp
At the agreed time, our driver will meet you at the airport, your accommodation or the exact Marrakech location confirmed with you. Travel is in a comfortable private air-conditioned vehicle suited to your group size. Subject to the language agreed at booking and availability, assistance can be provided in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese or Italian.
We drive south across the High Atlas through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, at more than 2,200 metres. There will be stops at viewpoints and near small Amazigh villages for photographs and time to enjoy the scenery. We then continue past Ouarzazate, known as the Gateway to the Desert, and reach Agdz, where one of the loveliest stretches of the Draa Valley begins. The road follows its vast palm grove among adobe villages, gardens and old kasbahs. Lunch is at your own expense in a restaurant along the route.
In the afternoon we arrive in Zagora and exchange the vehicle for camels. The ride to camp is timed to enjoy the sunset. Dinner and an overnight stay in a desert tent follow. Please note that Zagora is a rocky pre-Saharan landscape with smaller dunes than Erg Chebbi; it is an excellent choice when only two days are available.
Day 2
Zagora – Draa Valley – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
You may rise early to watch the desert sunrise before breakfast. We then return from camp by camel and rejoin the private vehicle. The journey follows the Draa Valley again, with stops according to the available time and road conditions.
We continue towards Ouarzazate and the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, an impressive adobe settlement used in many film productions. You will have time to explore it; paid entrances and lunch are optional. Telouet Kasbah can only be added when arranged in advance and when timing and road conditions allow.
In the afternoon we cross the High Atlas once more and normally reach Marrakech at the end of the day. Your driver will drop you at the accommodation, airport or city location agreed with you. This tour covers roughly 700 km in two days, so it is an intensive experience designed for travellers with limited time.
